How it works
Your files are converted on your device.
Nothing is uploaded. Here's what happens when you convert, how you can check it yourself, and the open-source work it all stands on.
drop. convert. carry on.
Three steps
Choose a file
Drop it on the page or pick it from your device. Your browser hands it to the converter in this tab; it isn't sent anywhere.
It converts here
A Web Worker, a background process inside this browser tab, turns it into the new format.
Download
The new file comes straight back as an ordinary download. Close the tab and both are gone from memory.

What happens inside your browser
- Your file
- Web Worker (reads it)
- New file
- Download
Every step runs in your browser tab. None of them talks to a server.
When you pick a file, the page hands the file itself to a Web Worker, and the worker reads its bytes there. The page never loads your file's contents, so files waiting in line don't take up memory.
Inside the worker, our own code and the open-source libraries credited below read the file and write the new one. The new file is transferred back to the page, moved rather than copied, and your browser saves it with an ordinary download link.
Each kind of file has its own converter, loaded only when a page needs it: a DXF page never downloads the spreadsheet code. Once the converter for your format has loaded, the page doesn't need the network at all. Switch off Wi-Fi and keep converting.
There's no server-side conversion. Our server stores only your Pro early access sign-up, and only if you join: your email, the plan you pick, and where and when you joined. The privacy policy has the details.

Check it yourself
You don't have to take our word for it. Your browser can show you exactly what this page sends.
- Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Option + Command + I on a Mac) and choose the Network tab.
- Convert a file on this page.
- Look through the requests. None of them carries your file: the page loads its code once, then the conversion runs in a Web Worker on your device.
- For a stronger test, turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads, then convert again. It still works.
The conversion worker runs under its own Content Security Policy, which blocks every network request:
default-src 'none'; script-src 'self'The page itself may only talk to this site and our cookieless analytics:
connect-src 'self' https://gateway.umami.isHonest limits
Converting on your device has trade-offs, and we'd rather you hear them from us:
- Speed and the largest file you can convert depend on your device. A phone runs out of memory sooner than a laptop, and very large files can be slow.
- Each converter has gaps of its own. DXF to PDF draws all text in Helvetica, for example, and DBF tables lose their binary picture fields.
- Binary DXF and DWG files can't be read yet. Save the drawing as ASCII DXF first.
- The free plan converts up to 5 files at a time. ZIP and folder input are planned for Pro.
Every converter page lists what carries over and what doesn't:
